Ms. Barbara Hilder

Director

Barbara Hilder is currently the Director at the Confucius Institute at the University of Melbourne. Barbara has spent the last 15 years off shore in both China and Japan.

Barbara has worked as the Australian Trade Commissioner in Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai and Beijing. Previous to this Barbara worked for Fujitsu in Japan.

Barbara is a qualified teacher and holds and MBA in International Management. She has a unique business culture insight from both living and working in China and with her extensive experience working with a range of Australian companies off shore.

Ms. Julia Gong

Manager - academic & Business Programs

Julia Gong is the Manager of Academic & Business Programs at the Confucius Institute. Julia’s role is to ensure the Business Programs at the Institute are the most up to date and relevant programs available to business people in Australia.

Julia completed a Master Degree of Education at the University of Melbourne. She is also an experienced language teacher.

The Institute has two advisory Boards - An International Academic Advisory Board and an Industry and Community Advisory Board.

The leadership of the Institute will be through Joint Management Committee between the University of Melbourne and the Nanjing University and an Executive Management Group. Both are chaired by Prof. Sue Elliott, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement), the University of Melbourne.
