About Us

The University of Melbourne and Asialink are proud to support the Confucius Institute at the University of Melbourne with Nanjing University as its Partner University. The Confucius Institute network has been created to spearhead the teaching of Chinese language and culture worldwide, as well as acting as a vehicle through which to strengthen economic and business ties. Confucius Institutes are in place across the USA, Europe, Asia and Oceania; with 14 in operation across Australia.

Confucius Institute at the University of Melbourne has a focus on corporate sector engagement and seeks to equip Victorians with the language and cultural skills necessary for building lasting relationships with Chinese stakeholders. Since the establishment, the Confucius Institute has provided services and training to government organisations, corporations and professionals.

The Institute works closely with the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Victoria (CLTAV) and provides support to Chinese language competitions, cultural arts programs for Victorian schools on request as well as professional development for Chinese teachers. Since 2015, the Institute and CLTAV have co-hosted four annual conferences for Chinese teachers in Victoria.
